Brent Applebaum
Brent currently serves as an Assistant Principal Partner at Community Challenge Creativity (C3), a DPS innovation school in the Cory-Merrill neighborhood. Prior to his leadership role at C3, Brent taught kindergarten, first and second grade at Stanley British Primary School in Denver, CO. Brent completed the Stanley Teacher Prep program (now PEBC Teacher Residency) in 2008. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sports and Exercise Science from the University of Northern Colorado and Master’s degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Colorado Denver. Brent currently serves on the Board of the Greenway Foundation and enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, Ellie and Ryan.
Kathleen (Katy) Campbell
Kathleen Campbell currently teaches 6th grade English language arts STRIVE Prep-Kepner, a turnaround school in Southwest Denver. In 2018, Katy was one of seven finalists for Colorado Teacher of the Year. Additionally, as a Colorado Educator Voice Fellow, Katy testified in front of the Denver Public School Board and the State Legislature several times advocating for equity in education. While serving as a Colorado Teach Plus Policy Fellow, Katy worked with urban and rural teachers as well as senators and representatives to bring teacher voice to the table on suspension and expulsion practices across the state of Colorado. These testimonies and fellowships have inspired Katy to write various op-eds. Katy believes the teaching profession is on a positive bubble of change as we choose to empower and professionalize our jobs and our voices for the education of all of our students. Katy completed the Stanley Teacher Prep program (now PEBC Teacher Residency) in 2013. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in English, Creative Writing from Colorado College and a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Colorado Denver.
Margaret (Meg) Cypress
Meg currently teaches 5th grade at Bradley International School. She is the 2019 Colorado Teacher of the Year. When awarding Meg the Teacher of the Year honor at a surprise ceremony, Colorado Commissioner Katy Anthes said “Meg Cypress’s love for teaching and helping children grow makes her the perfect ambassador for Colorado teachers. As Colorado continues to look for ways to recruit and retain more teachers, Meg is exactly the type of spark we need to inspire and motivate bright people to enter the profession.” At Bradley since 2003, Meg started as a reading specialist as the school faced the possibility of being closed. She worked with the staff to bring the International Baccalaureate Program’s Primary Years Programme to Bradley to keep it open for the surrounding neighborhood. Since then the school has become a high-performing school with a wait list. Meg is a Colorado native who received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Northern Colorado and her licensure from the Stanley Teacher Prep program (now PEBC Teacher Residency) in 2003. She has previously received the 9News Teachers Who Care Award and was a Mile High Teacher for Denver Public Schools in 2007.
